Saina Nehwal is not only an outstanding badminton player but also a former No.1. Things did not quite go her way this Olympics when a 61st-ranked Maria Ulitina of Ukraine defeated her in her second match. This heartbreaking defeat was definitely linked to the knee injury that got her admitted to a hospital in Hyderabad upon her return from Rio.
Yesterday, India discovered another badminton superstar in PV Sindhu who defeated Japan's Nozomi Ukuhara to enter the badminton finals, assuring at least a silver for herself and her country. Sindhu, of course, is focused on her gold quest.
So, the celebratory wave set in motion by Sakshi Malik a day earlier was only getting bigger. Twitter exploded as wishes poured in for Sindhu. In the middle of all the good cheer though, a self-proclaimed fan of Saina Nehwal decided to troll her.
He said:
@NSaina dear saina...pack ur bags..we hav found someone who knows how to beat the best ones
— anshul sagar (@ImAnshS6) August 18, 2016
But true sport that Saina is, she had a dignified reply for him. She said:
Sure thank u 😀Sindhu is doing really well 👍India is doing really https://t.co/7Sf2rztear
— Saina Nehwal (@NSaina) August 18, 2016
Thankfully, that was enough for the troll to see the error of his ways. He replied:
@NSaina sorry for hurting u
..i really didnt mean it..i still love u...still a big fan
— anshul sagar (@ImAnshS6) August 18, 2016
Nehwal, obviously, let it go:
No problem my friend 👍all the best to u https://t.co/peMdJaJ4Rs
— Saina Nehwal (@NSaina) August 18, 2016
However, a lot of her fans did not.
@NSaina @ImAnshS6 she is always going to be Indias no 1 badminton player #Respect

And Nehwal garnered a lot of support. As for the fan, he profusely apologised for that tweet to a lot of people.
