Ranbir Kapoor, once heralded as the next-gen superstar, has found himself in a pretty serious professional and personal crisis.

A much-publicised break-up with former girlfriend and live-in partner Katrina Kaif aside, his films too, have been failing both critically and commercially.

His last hit was Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, back in May 2013.

The notoriously diplomatic actor usually refuses to comment on either his love life or his career. However, on Thursday, he opened up to senior film journalist Rajeev Masand in a candid interview for News18.

I'm going through a little bit of metamorphosis; trying to understand where I'm in life. It's a good time.

About his break-up with Katrina, he said:

"Whatever I say is grossly misconstrued, there are a lot of interpretations. I've not even said that I've broken up you know, don't feel the need to talk about it. My personal life is very dear to me. What my relationship with Katrina is, was or going to be, it's really dear to me. It [the break-up] hurt. After my parents, she has been the most influential and most motivational entity in my life.

He added that his relationship was punctured by a lot of things like 'baseless reports, reports, and perceptions.' The duo continues to film for Anurag Basu's Jagga Jasoos but Ranbir clarified that there is no awkwardness between the two now.

He said, "There's no awkwardness, as a matter of fact, it's amazing. We're actors. We aren't here to bring our personal life and emotions. We come on sets, we bring our characters; emotions. She brings her game on the set and in return I bring my A-game."

About the back-to-back commercial failures of films like Besharam (2013), Roy (2015), Bombay Velvet (2015), and Tamasha (2015), he said, "I'm in that phase where I have to change; my films have to change, tricks in my magic bag... and I have to go back to being nobody. And there's an absolute bliss in that. That star that I was meant to be and didn't become, the search is for that. I'm going through a little bit of metamorphosis; trying to understand where I'm in life. It's a good time. I'm trying not to turn negative, nervous, insecure or anxious. My films haven't been working, there has been a huge negative spotlight on me. But you've to take all that in your stride," he said.
