Update: Turns out, these notes are real. In a surprise move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the scrapping og ₹500 and ₹1,000 currency notes presently in use to curb black money. He also said that new ₹2,000 and ₹1,000 notes will be issued by the Reserve Bank of India.
Twitter has found something new to obsess over. This time, it's the photos of currency notes.
For the last few days, photos of several bundles of pink-and-white notes have been doing the rounds on social media. Apparently, this is the new ₹2,000 denomination that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) reportedly intends to release into circulation soon.
So far, there has been no word on these notes from the central bank.
However, an article that appeared on The Hindu Business Line in October had said that ₹2,000 currency notes have been printed at the printing press in Mysuru and they were being dispatched.
According to the report, this was after a demand for ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes to be pulled from circulation to prevent money laundering.
