A Pakistan High Commission employee was reportedly arrested by the Delhi Police on Thursday for allegedly stealing defence-related documents.

Mehmood Akhtar, the accused, was among the staffers of Pakistan's High Commissioner Abdul Basit. He was remanded at the Chanakyapuri police station under the espionage charge, reports said. Akhtar was then released as he has diplomatic immunity.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also summoned Pakistan's High Commissioner Abdul Basit at 11.30 am on Thursday.

According to a CNN-News 18 report, some maps and details of force deployment were found with Akhtar.
Some employees of the Pakistan High Commission came under scrutiny after a Pakistani spy ring was exposed in November 2015 and five people were arrested.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Delhi's Lieutenant Governor have been briefed about the situation.
Further investigations are underway.
