RSS Wants PhDs For 'Independent Researchers' Who Have Never Studied At Universities

Among the several recommendations that Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has sent the human resource development ministry for its new education policy, the right-wing group reportedly wants the government to consider awarding degrees to people who never went to university.

The Sangh, in an annotated document with its various recommendations to the ministry, has reportedly written, "Research work should be independent, without time constraints and those doing useful research outside universities should also be awarded degrees."

The critique and recommendations for the new education policy have reportedly been sent to the ministry by RSS' Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas. It also includes other suggestions like removing and reinterpreting what it deems "insulting references to Indian culture", etc, as well as removing the mandatory requirement of learning English.

Undoubtedly, awarding degrees and PhDs based on "independent" research and removing the need to have a scholar's work held up to university standards is an easy way for self-proclaimed gurus, ideologues, and dilettantes to enter academia and public office which they would otherwise be unqualified for, reported Scroll.
