In addition to the Jio mobile service launch, which understandably took the centrestage at the Reliance AGM, there was another important announcement made, viz Reliance is bringing 1 Gbps internet service to India. Now, reports suggest that Jio has begun public testing of its Fibernet services.

PhoneRadar reports that Jio has started the test plan in cities such as Mumbai and New Delhi, and is providing three months of free service with speeds up to 100 Mbps. Some users have also said on social media platforms that they have started using the service.

The company plans to roll out GigaFiber services in 100 cities in the first phase. The ultimate target is to reach 900 towns and cities with the service.

Jio has promised plans for speeds up to 1 Gbps, and the pricing of those plans is likely to start from as little as ₹500.

Although no plans have officially been unveiled yet, PhoneRadar has released some details about the plans. The plans have been classified into speed based, volume based, and special categories.

The data caps offered are quite high and if the prices indicated will indeed be offered at the launch, the overall content consumption by users is likely to be substantial. On the other hand, the volume based tariff plans offer a per day data cap.

Jio's current welcome plan offers 100 GB of data per month for three months. But users are reporting that, for now at least, data is free even beyond the 100 GB limit. Moreover, subscription to Jio apps such as JioTV and Jio Movies is free.

Just as in the case of Jio's 4G service, signing up for GigaFiber is free but the special router will cost around ₹6,000, as reported by BGR.

Meanwhile, Jio's war with other telcos is seemingly coming to an end. Over the last few days, Idea and Airtel have agreed to provide additional interconnection points for Jio customers in different capacities.
