NEW DELHI -- The National Capital Region woke up to heavy rains on Wednesday morning, which had turned into a downpour by the time it was ready for millions of people to leave for work.
Those who were already on the road, or had no choice but to head to their offices, were stuck in lengthy traffic jams as the city once again became waterlogged after a bout of heavy rain. On Monday, the motorcade of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who is visiting India for bilateral talks, was stuck in traffic for more than an hour.
The Delhi Police has warned of water logging on Shantivan Chowk, Under Hanuman Setu, Subhash Marg, Chandni Chowk, Brar Square to Mayapuri, South Avenue, Shanti Path, Kautilya roundabout, and other places. See the full list on the Twitter timeline of the Delhi Police.
"Road dividers, trees, pavements, poles, etc. help in judging the depth of waterlogging," DP said in a tweet. If the water is deep enough to submerge your vehicle's exhaust pipe, then try to avoid the road."
Shortly after 9:30 am today, NDTV reported that the Haryana government had advised residents not to go out for at least an hour.
Twitter was flooded with images of downpour as well as angry and mocking messages over the severe inconvenience caused to NCR residents, every time the national capital and its surrounding areas experience heavy rainfall.
